Student Leadership & Honor Societies at NISL
NISL provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, character, service, and responsibility through honor societies and student government. These organizations allow students to contribute to the school community, participate in service projects, and strengthen their leadership skills.
National Honor SocietyThe National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Through NHS, students are encouraged to serve their school and community, develop as responsible leaders, and uphold high standards of academic achievement and Islamic character.
Eligibility and Membership Students in grades 9-12 may be considered for membership based on the academic, leadership, service, and character requirements established in the NISL NHS Chapter Bylaws. Eligible students must maintain the required cumulative grade-point average and complete the application and selection process. Membership in NHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Members are expected to remain in good academic standing, participate in chapter meetings and activities, complete required service hours, and consistently demonstrate respectful and responsible conduct. Student CouncilThe NISL Student Council (STUCO) is part of National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, represent the student body, and contribute to a positive school community. Student Council members serve as a bridge between students and school leadership by sharing ideas, helping plan activities, and encouraging student participation in school life.
Eligibility and Participation Students in grades 7-12 may apply and run for Student Council positions according to the eligibility and election requirements established by NISL. Student Council members are expected to maintain satisfactory academic standing, demonstrate responsible conduct and strong Islamic character, attend meetings, and actively participate in council activities. Serving on Student Council is both a leadership opportunity and a responsibility. Members are expected to represent their classmates respectfully, work cooperatively with others, and support the mission and values of NISL. National Junior Honor SocietyThe National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) recognizes middle school students who demonstrate excellence in the five pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Through NJHS, students are encouraged to strengthen their academic habits, serve others, develop leadership skills, and contribute positively to the NISL community.
Eligibility and Membership Students in grades 6-8 may be considered for membership based on the academic, leadership, service, character, and citizenship requirements outlined in the NISL NJHS Chapter Bylaws. Eligible students must maintain the required cumulative grade-point average and complete the application and selection process. Membership in NJHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Members are expected to remain in good academic standing, attend chapter meetings, participate in service activities, and consistently demonstrate responsible conduct and strong Islamic character. National Elementary Honor SocietyThe National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) recognizes elementary students who demonstrate excellence in the four pillars of scholarship, responsibility, leadership, and service. Through NEHS, students begin developing strong academic habits, personal responsibility, leadership skills, and a commitment to serving others. Eligibility and Membership Students in grades 4-5 may be considered for membership based on the academic achievement and responsibility requirements outlined in the NISL NEHS Chapter Bylaws. Eligible students must meet the required cumulative grade-point average and complete the chapter’s selection and induction process. Membership in NEHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Members are expected to remain in good academic standing, attend chapter meetings, participate in service activities, and consistently demonstrate honesty, respect, reliability, and strong Islamic character.
